Your partner in Direct Lithium Extraction applications

Precision materials for scalable, high-purity lithium recovery

Saint-Gobain Lithium Solutions' advanced ceramic lithium-extractive media are designed to optimize the extraction of lithium from brines. With their specifically tailored shape and adjustable extractive properties, these products offer an efficient and dependable solution for the extraction process. The media serves as the primary enabling component in the Direct Lithium Extraction (DLE) process, integrating seamlessly with front-end and back-end process steps such pre-treatment, concentration, refinement, and conversion.

Our materials are engineered to selectively capture lithium ions from saline brines through controlled adsorption or ionic exchange. Developed using Saint-Gobain’s advanced ceramic technologies, these materials deliver exceptional selectivity, efficiency, and durability to optimize lithium recovery in direct lithium extraction systems.

When exposed to the brine feed, the media selectively binds lithium ions, forming a lithium-saturated material that can be rinsed or eluted to recover the lithium ions. This extraction–elution cycle is precise, repeatable, and compatible with various process conditions, ensuring consistent lithium yield and system stability.

The recovered lithium solution is then concentrated and refined, with excess water recycled in a quasi-closed-loop process to minimize environmental impact. The long operational life of the ceramic media makes it a reliable, cost-effective core component in advanced direct lithium extraction processes.

Our portfolio is based on two platforms.

The HeLiX® line uses adsorption as the mechanism for extracting lithium from brines. This process minimizes the use of chemicals, making it easy to implement and well suited for direct lithium extraction.

The Spira™ line uses ion exchange as the mechanism for extracting lithium from brines. This media is well-adapted to complex fluids, making it a promising candidate for lithium extraction from black mass in battery recycling. It can also be used for direct lithium extraction and is particularly well suited for sulfate-rich or low TDS brines. Elution requires acidic or alkaline solutions.
